· A growth area with land, an excellent and growing university, and a ready and skilled
workforce
· The Hunter Region is in transition still after the loss of the BHP steel works and more
closures recently announced
· Coal provides a current back bone to the regional economy but this is a dangerously
narrow focus for economic activity and hazardously exposes the region to the vagaries of
global markets
· There is substantial development intended for the Hunter Region in terms of available
Industrial land, proximity to existing and proposed infrastructure (roads, rail and airport)
